About Dayboox
What is Dayboox?
Dayboox is a free online website that will help you capture, recall and share your lifetime memories through pictures and written entries! Every memory will be chronologically organized and is fully searchable by keywords, date and location. You can even upload pictures directly from a camera phone. Dayboox makes it easy for you to share all your memories with friends, groups, family or fans by allowing you to determine individual privacy levels. What's also great is that you can embed Dayboox on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Hi5 or any other community, blog, journal or online diary. Once you post a new entry, all the other profiles with a Dayboox application will be instantly updated as well. Now your family and friends will never miss a moment of your life!
Is Dayboox free?
Yes, Dayboox is free! In fact, Dayboox is a great service that could otherwise cost you time and money if you try to capture your life anywhere else. So why bother looking elsewhere when Dayboox is here and free!
How do I record my life?
Record your life by making a written daily entry or by taking a photograph with your camera then uploading it to your account. Or easier still, record your life from your camera phone! Simply take the photo and email it directly to your Dayboox. Whichever method you choose, Dayboox makes it easy and convenient for you to document your life.
Signing up
How do I sign up?
Signing up is really easy! Simply click on Register Now located on the bottom half of the Dayboox Welcome Screen (http://www.dayboox.com). From here just follow a few easy steps and in minutes you’ll have your profile ready to capture, share, and record your life!
I keep being told the username I want is taken. Do you have any tips to find a username I'll like?
You can try a number of different ways to choose your username. Ask yourself what one of your favorite things is, such as a favorite car, color or movie and try using that. If it doesn’t work, add a number to that word such as the year you were born, your area code or a number from the roll of a dice. Hopefully you’ll end up with a good combination of your favorite thing and a number. If you still end up with something already taken then keep rolling the dice or picking a number from a deck of cards because you’re bound to end up with a black jack.
Solving Sign-up and Log-in Issues
I keep being asked to log in, even though I entered my username and password correctly. What should I do?
First make sure your CAPS button is unlocked. Often times people are not aware that the CAPS key is on. Your password is case sensitive so be sure you are using the right combination of capital and lower case letters. If after several attempts you still cannot login you can retrieve your password by clicking on Forgot password? at the top right corner beneath the login and follow the steps. If you are unable to login with what you know to be your correct username and password, please ensure that you have cookies enabled. If your cookies are already enabled or enabling them doesn't resolve this issue, try the second process below: Clearing the browser's cache. Enabling cookies. - Check the box "Override automatic cookie handling" under the Cookies section in the Advanced Privacy Settings window.

- Check the box corresponding to "Accept cookies from sites".
- Click "OK" to save and close.
- If this doesn't solve the issue, try: Clear the cache for Firefox 2.x (PC).
Enable cookies for Mozilla Firefox 1.x (PC)
- In Mozilla Firefox, select "Tools" from the file menu.
- Select "Options".
- Click on the "Privacy" icon in the top panel.
- Click on the "Cookies" tab.
- Check the "Allow sites to set cookies" checkbox.
- Click "OK" to save and close.
- If this doesn't solve the issue, try: Clear the cache for Firefox 1.x (PC).
Enable cookies for Mozilla Firefox (Mac)
- Go to the "Firefox" drop down menu.
- Select "Preferences".
- Select the "Privacy" icon.
- Under "Cookies", mark the checkbox for "Allow sites to set Cookies".
- If this doesn't solve the issue, try: Clear the cache for Firefox (Mac).
Enable cookies for Safari
- Go to the "Safari" drop down menu.
- Select "Preferences".
- Select the "Security" icon at the top panel.
- Under "Accept Cookies" section select "Only from sites you navigate to".
- If this doesn't solve the issue, try: Clear the cache for Safari.
Clearing the browser's cache. If your cookies were already enabled or enabling cookies doesn't resolve the problem, you may also want to clear the cookies that are stored on your computer (Please note that while clearing your cookies may resolve the problem, it will also remove your saved settings for sites you've previously visited.) - Click on the "General" tab if it isn't selected already.
- Under the Browsing history section, click the "Delete…" button.
- Click the "Delete cookies…" button.
- Select "Yes" if a box appears to confirm.
- Click "OK" to close the window.
Clear the cache for Internet Explorer 6

- Open the Internet Options icon.

- Under the heading "Temporary Internet files," click the "Delete Cookies..." button.
- Click "OK" for the "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder?" prompt.

Clear the cache for Mozilla Firefox (Mac)
- Go to the "Firefox" drop down menu.
- Select "Preferences".
- Select the "Privacy" icon.
- In version 1.5, click "Clear Cache Now." In 1.0, next to "Cache," click the "Clear" button, and then "OK." In 2.0, click on the "Clear Now" button under the "Private Data" heading.
Clear the cache for Safari
- Go to the "Safari" drop down menu.
- Select "Preferences".
- Select the "Security" icon at the top panel.
- From the Security dialog box, click "Bookmarks".
- Click "Show Cookies".
- Click "Remove All".
- Click "Done".
I never received my welcome email. What happened?
If you don't receive the welcome or confirmation email when you expect to, check your email client's spam folder. Some email clients are more aggressive than others about identifying spam. If it’s not in your spam folder, try logging in with the username and password you just created. If you are unable to log in, try re-registering your account and expect a welcome email from us.
The verification code will not accept.
When you sign up to become a Dayboox member the verification code may sometimes produce letter combinations that make it hard for people to correctly discern the characters. Make sure you did not put any spaces in between any of the letters. If it still doesn’t work try the process again and you will be prompted with another verification code.

My Dayboox entries
What is a Dayboox entry?
A Dayboox entry is an entry that you create for the moment you want to capture. It is also referred to as a memory since these moments are derived from your memories. The entry can be about anything in your life you want to remember. You can keep the entry confidential, make it visible to a few selected friends or visible to the entire public. It’s all up to you. Your Dayboox is about your life so carpe diem and start documenting your life now!
How do I upload my first entry?
You will be asked to upload your first entry during registration. If you choose not to make an entry during registration you can do so at any time by logging in and clicking on the “new entry” button on the top of the page.
Which file formats can I upload?
You can upload files in JPEG, GIF and TIFF format. Most photos will be in JPEG format whether you are uploading a picture from your camera or sending a photo from your camera phone.
How do I make my entries private?
The default setting for new entries is private. When you send an email with an attached picture, or submit an entry from your mobile phone, the entries are private whether you type a "P" or "Private" in the subject line. If you forget to type in your privacy preference, the entry is private by default.
To change the privacy setting of an existing record, go to the entry and click "Edit". If you're in the list view, it's found under the drop down menu to the right of the entry. If you're in large view, it's the blue pencil icon under the entry's description. Then change the "Show it to" line to fit your privacy preference.
When I upload an image is it public or private?
The default settings for newly posted entries is private. Upon submitting an entry you can choose who you would like to share it with. If you would like to change the privacy level for any of your entries, select the entry you would like to change and click edit. You can change all entry details from the edit screen.
How do I add a note?
If you create an entry via your online account you just simply enter the note in the “NOTE FIELD” next to your uploaded image. If you create the entry via email or a camera phone you can add a note by typing: "Notes:" and then type away. (Ex. Notes: What a journey! I can't believe we climbed the entire mountain!) Notes can also be added at a later time by logging in to your Dayboox.
What are Keywords and why should I use them?
Keywords help you label and describe your entries so that you can easily find and remember them later. For example, a surfing entry might be tagged with "surfing," "water," and "waves." If you search your entries by any of those terms, that entry will show up in your search results. Friends or Groups you’ve shared your entries with can browse and search your Dayboox by keywords as well. If your entries are set to public, then your entries are included in all keyword searches and will be visible to anyone. You can assign keywords while you create an entry or add them later by editing your entry. To add keywords to an entry, click on the edit button in the keyword field then enter the keywords you want to use. To add keywords from an email or mobile upload, type "Keywords:" in the body of the message, followed by your keywords. (Ex. Keywords: mountain, hike, climb)
How do I change the location of an entry?
The default location of your entries is the personal destination you entered when you started your Dayboox. The location information is shown above the uploaded image. You can change the location by clicking on the edit button then enter or browse your location on the pop-up map.
How do I change the date and time?
The default date and time is the current time when you create your entry and is shown alongside the uploaded image. To change this information click on the edit button and choose the right date/time.
How do I use my camera phone to upload my entries?
Using your camera phone with Dayboox is really easy! You're going to have to tell us where the email is coming from (that way strangers can't email to your account). Mobile email users must add their phone's email address. If you're a MMS user, you'll need to add your MMS email. Here's a list of providers and MMS email domains. These are different from internet enabled mobile phone email domains, and MMS charges may apply depending on your service and contract.

To add emails click "+add another email address" from the mobile upload page. You can also get to the appropriate page by clicking "Home", then "My Profile", followed by "Settings". Then next to Mobile Setting click "Add/Change Access Emails". Enter your desired additional emails and click "Save".
Once you’ve taken the photo with your phone send it to your Dayboox email address. This address is listed on the "new entry" page after you click on "Email" or "Mobile". It is displayed under "Your posting address". This is the address to use for both mobile and email uploads alike. Your entry will be posted to your account as soon as we receive it.
You can set the privacy level of this photo as well as add notes, keywords, and who you'd like to share it with all from the subject and body of the message. For detailed instructions log in and click "new entry" at the top of the screen. Then click "Mobile" or "Email" and scroll down. You'll see an entire area on the left side of the screen with instructions on how to make email and mobile entries as efficient and useful as possible.
How do I set the privacy level (private, friends, family, groups)?
When you create an entry you are prompted to set the privacy level. You have the option of keeping it confidential or allowing others to be able to view it. If you don’t change the privacy level the entry will remain private and visible only by you. Email and mobile users: For detailed instructions log in and click "new entry" at the top of the screen. Then click "Mobile" or "Email" and scroll down. You'll see an entire area on the left side of the screen with instructions on how to make email and mobile entries as efficient and useful as possible.
How do I change the mood?
You can set the mood after creating an entry by clicking on the blue face on the right hand side, next to your privacy setting. This can be edited later by clicking on the “Edit” button and then selecting your mood.
How do I edit an entry?
After you have posted an entry, you can always go back and edit the information. Simply open that entry you wish to modify by clicking on it. You will see an “Edit” link. Follow that link to make your changes.
Who can see my private memories?
If you don't specify that you want to share your entry with anyone when you make the entry then it is visible only to you. If you share the entry with friends and family or groups on your list, it will only be viewable by those selected users or groups.
How do I know which entries are for friends, public or private?
By default, every entry will be private until you specify otherwise. You can choose with whom you want to share the entry while you create it or edit it later. You can check the privacy level of the entry by clicking on the entry and checking the “Share with” menu. You can also click on "edit" and and view the "Show it to" box.
Is it possible to just email photos to my Dayboox account?
Yes! It is encouraged to email photos since it makes things easy and convenient. What’s even simpler is that you can send photos from your camera phone to your Dayboox through email. To email photos: You're going to have to tell us where the email is coming from (that way strangers can't email to your account). Log in and click "new entry". Then click "Email", and make sure the correct email address is registered with Dayboox. While on the main email upload screen, you'll want to save the unique Dayboox email address to your address book. This is where you need to send you entries to post them to your Dayboox account. You can register up to 5 additional emails for even easier uploading capabilities. To add emails click "+add another email address". Then next to "Mobile Setting" click "Add/Change Access Emails". Enter your desired additional emails and click "Save". You're now ready to email entries to your Dayboox account. For additional email convenience features, go back to the main Email page.
How do I delete an entry?
To delete an etnry, you will need to go to the edit page of that enrty and click the delete button. Confirm and the entry will be deleted.
Share my memories
How do I share my memories?
You can invite your friends or family to share your entries, join or create a group of common interest and make your entries visible to them. You can also post your Dayboox on other websites. All your entries and memories are shared automatically so long as they are public or private among a community of friends. When you put up an entry you can choose with whom you want to share this entry. The people that you have granted access to your entry will get an instant notification about your new entry. They can also post comments about your entries.
How do I share my memories on different levels?
When you create the memory, you can set the privacy with whom you want to share your entry according to the different friend lists and groups which are displayed on the create/edit screen.
How do I tell all my friends about my memories?
There are a number of ways you can tell your friends about your memories. If your friends are not already on Dayboox, invite them to join and they will be notified as soon as you upload a new entry that is set to be shared with them. You can also look up all your friends by email address and name within Dayboox. If you are using another social networking website such as MySpace, you can add the Dayboox widget to your MySpace profile. When you update your Dayboox, this will update as well.
How do I show my memories within a group?
You have to join or create the group you want to share your entries with. As a member of a group, you will see the option to share your entries within this group while creating your entries. Share your entries with the desired group by selecting the group, just like sharing an entry with a friend.
How do I post my Dayboox on other websites or blogs?
A great feature of Dayboox is that you can add the application to other sites. When you update your Dayboox, your other profiles that have the Dayboox widget will automatically be updated as well. You can do this by clicking the “Share” button on the top of the page or under “My Life”. On the next page, click on “Post your Dayboox” and follow the steps to post your Dayboox on other websites.
Other people’s entries
How do I comment on other entries?
Dayboox allows you to comment on other people’s entries by clicking on the comment button and typing in the text field. You can share your comment with just the entry owner or with everybody.
Can I rate other entries?
Yes, you can rate other entries. Select the entry you want to rate then click on the stars you want to rate the entry with.

How do I change my profile picture?
You can easily change your profile picture by logging into your Dayboox, clicking on the “EDIT PROFILE” button and uploading a new picture from your computer.
How do I update my “About me” text?
You can change this text by logging in to your Dayboox, clicking the “Edit Profile” button, and entering a new text. When you’re done making changes, click the "Update" button on the bottom of the screen.
Can I change my name which is displayed on Dayboox?
You can change your nickname by logging into your Dayboox, clicking on the “Edit Profile” button and entering your new nickname. Click on the “Update” button at the bottom to see if the new nickname is available.
Can I change my user id?
You can change your user details by logging into your Dayboox, clicking on the “Edit Profile” button and change what you want. Click on the “Update” button at the bottom to save your changes.
Username and Password
I forgot my username and/or password. How do I log back into the site?
To retrieve your password, click on the "Forgot password"? link located underneath the login at the top right corner of Dayboox’s home page. You will be prompted to enter the email address you used to register your Dayboox account. Your username and password will then be sent to that email address.
How do I change my password?
After you login with your current password, go to your profile and click on Settings. From there, you can change your password, email and all other account settings. Be sure to remember your new password!
Can I change my Dayboox username?
You can change your Username (Nickname) by logging into your account, clicking on the “edit profile” button and entering a new Username/Nickname. Click on the “Update” button at the bottom to see if the new Username/Nickname is available.
I can’t remember my username.
If you can’t remember your username, click on the "Forgot your password?" link located at the top right corner of Dayboox’s homepage. You will be asked to enter your email address and your current username and password will be sent to you. If you have forgotten the email address you used to sign up with Dayboox, please contact Dayboox tech support at support@dayboox.com.
Privacy settings
How do I change my privacy setting?
You can alter your privacy settings by clicking on the “Settings” link on your profile page. You can set who is allowed to see your profile, your online status, and comment settings.
Who can see my profile?
Only those who you want to be able to view your profile will have access. You always have the option to block users. This can all be done within the privacy section under your profile settings.
How can I change my online status?
To change your online status click on “Settings” in your profile then click on "Privacy Settings". Check the box next to “Hide your 'Online' status” if you want to hide that you are online. Click the “Save” button to submit your changes.
How do I set my account private?
Click on the "Settings" button on your profile and under “Who Can View My Full Profile” select “Just me” then click on "Save" to save the changes.
How can I change my comment settings?
You can change your comment settings by going to "My Profile", "Settings", then "Privacy Settings" and selecting your preferences. You can choose no comments at all, comments without being approved, comments from friends only or comments which will need to be approved by you before they are shown to others.
How do I get the Newsletter?
Dayboox provides updates and helpful information in a newsletter. Being a member you are automatically on the mailing list. If you don’t want to receive this newsletter, check the “Do not send me the Dayboox newsletter” box, and click "Save". This is located in the "Privacy Settings" section of the profile settings.
Closing account
How do I close my Dayboox?
We regret that you wish to close your account. To close your Dayboox, click on the "Disable Account" link located in "Settings". You will then have the option to disable your Dayboox. Once confirmed, your profile will be on hold. You can enable your account simply by logging back into Dayboox.
Why was my account blocked?
There are a number of reasons why your Dayboox was suspended. You could have possibly been putting up material that was found offensive and after repeated warnings you did not comply. We ask all of our users to be respectful and courteous by adhering to the Dayboox Community Guidelines. If you feel you have received this in error or wish to appeal it, feel free to send an email to community@dayboox.com
FRIENDS
How do I add a friend to my friend list?
Friends and family that do not have their own Dayboox can receive a personal invitation from you. You will find the “invite friends” link in the "Friends" section. You can browse your web address books and select the people you want to share your memories with.
Find friends within Dayboox that you want to add by searching for their name or email on the invite friends section. You can add any user on Dayboox by clicking the “Add to Friends” link on the profile of the user. The user will be notified that you wish to add him or her as a friend and will be prompted to confirm
How do I invite my friends to join Dayboox?
Inviting friends on Dayboox is a snap. From Home Overview click the "Invite New Friends" button, under the "Friends Online" section and a friend invitation menu will appear. Alternatively, you can click "Friends" followed by "Invite Friends", and proceed with the friend invitation option you'd prefer.
If you want to send a customized invitation to your friends you need to use the “Invite new friends directly by email” section (Friends > Invite Friends). You will then receive an email with a link to Dayboox that you need to copy and paste into your personal invitation message. People that create their account through this link will then become your friend automatically.
How can I import my addressbook?
To export your friends you need to create a file which contains the contact data. If you are using Microsoft Outlook, open the "File" menu and select the "Export and Import" menu item. Use the export wizard to export your contacts to a file, and chose the "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" format. After you have saved your file on your hard-disk, select this file here for import. If you are using another email client, please check how to export a CSV file or LDIF file. You can import the file types of files here: Outlook CSV, Outlook Express CSV, Mozilla Thunderbird CSV & LDIF. After you have imported the contact, you can review the list and select to which friends you want to send invitations.
How do I organize friends into friend lists?
Your friends can be organized into friend lists. These friend lists enable you to easily set the privacy level of each entry. You can create or edit your own friend lists under Friends/Friend Lists. For example, if you want to post an entry that only family members can see then select the “Family” friend list when you create the entry. Now only the users that you have categorized under “Family” will be able to see this entry.
How do I add friends within Dayboox?
To search and add your friends within Dayboox, click on the Friends button then on “invite friends”. Enter the name and email address of the friends you are looking for. You can also use the browse section to browse all users. Once you’ve found your friend, click on the “Add to Friends” link on their profile. From here, your friend will be notified that you wish to add them as a friend and will be asked to confirm.
How can I see my friend’s entries?
You will be able to see your friend’s entries after you have added them and they have confirmed that you are their friend. You will get notified automatically if your friend wishes to share a new entry with you. You can go to their profile to see and browse the entries being shared with you, and any public entries they have on Dayboox.
How do I accept a friend invite from another user?
When a user adds you as a friend, you will receive a notification via email. Simply click on the link provided to confirm that this is your friend and he or she will be added to your list of friends.
How do I remove a person from my friend list?
If you feel that you need to remove a friend from your list, you can do so by clicking on the "Friends" button, find the friend that you want to remove, click on the “Remove” button located next to their profile picture.
How can I set up "friends-only" comments?
You can set up your comments section to only allow friends to comment on your entries. Click on “privacy settings” under your profile and select “Comments from friends only”.
How do I block users?
You can block users by finding their profile under friends and clicking on the “Block User” button located next to their profile picture.
How do I stop following a user?
You can easily remove a user from your follow list by clicking on the “Follow” section of your profile. Find the user and click the delete button located next to their profile picture.
Groups
What is a group?
A group is a gathering of people on Dayboox that have come together to share an interest. Groups are a great way to explore and share your interests as well as expand on what you know. Share your personal experiences and memories with existing groups or start a new one.
How do I create a group?
Creating a group is easy and fun. While on the Dayboox homepage, click "Groups", and then click "Create Group". This will take you to the page on which you can create your own group by entering information in the required fields.
How do I join a group?
Simply find the group you wish to join by clicking on Groups. You can browse groups by location, keyword or name. After you have found the group, click on “join group” to become a member.
How to invite people or friends to join my group?
After you have created your own group on Dayboox, you don’t have to Dayboox alone! There is a link inside of your group that you can click to invite others. Click on "Invite Friends". From here, find the friends that you want to invite to this group. Click on their names and an email will be sent to their Dayboox asking them to join.
How can I stop following a group?
You can remove a group from your follow list by going into your "Follow" section, find the group that you want to remove and click on “Remove", or click the heart with the minus sign if you're in the large view.
Can I create an “invite-only” group?
Yes. When creating a group you will have the option to keep the group open to the public or keep it hidden and available only to those you invite.
Mails
How do I send a mail to another user?
You can send mail to other Dayboox users and friends by finding their profile and clicking on “Send Message“. Enter your message and click “Send”. Your friend will receive your message immediately.
Other member
How do I unblock a user?
To unblock a user go to “My Profile” then “Blocked Users” and click the button “Unblock” next to the blocked user.

How do I comment on other entries?
To comment on other user’s memories, it must first be allowed by the account owner. You can make a comment in the text box below the entry or you can click on the “Comment” button to the right of the entry while in the list view. You will be redirected to a page where you can enter your comments.
How do I turn off comments?
You can change your comment setting to disable comments under "My Profile", "Settings", then "Privacy Settings".
